VIDEO RELEASE: “Once Upon A December”

One of the most successful non-Disney animated films turns 20 today! Fox Animation’s Anastasia – notable for its all-star cast, award-winning Lynn Ahrens-Stephen Flaherty musical theatre writing team, and Don Bluth’s legendary strokes – is a nostalgic fairytale look at the tragic story of Anastasia. We grew up playing the popular “Once Upon A December” in youth orchestra, and we’re so happy to present our interpretation for string sextet.

VIDEO RELEASE: Dexter’s Laboratory & Director’s Podium No. 4

A little late for last month, but we’re showing a double! Enjoy the short but sweet (well, maybe dark) intro to Cartoon Network’s Dexter’s Laboratory played on cello plus our fourth edition of Director’s Podium with some questions and answers!

VIDEO RELEASE: A Tribute to James Horner

We take a break in our usual schedule to tribute one of the legendary composers who left our lives this year. James Horner was a true musical genius, crafting melodies and soundscapes for Titanic, Aliens, Avatar, and most recently Southpaw. Bobbie offers this cello tribute to Horner’s works for animated movies The Pagemaster, An American Tail, The Land Before Time, and Balto.

We miss you dearly and hope to see you again in that big somewhere out there …

Marking ‘MiLESTONES’ at Season-Ending Concert

We ended our inaugural season with MiLESTONES: A Concert of Anime, Cartoon, and Video Games Anniversaries at the Loreto Theater in The Sheen Center. So many nostalgic shows reached their 15th, 20th, and 30th marks so we though it best to pay tribute to each one of them as well as our own one year anniversary!

Photos by Simen Kot

Our 13-piece chamber orchestra performed music from Batman: The Animated Series, Intelligent Qube, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, The Simpsons, Super Mario Bros., and more in this 90-minute concert. Audience members were entertained by our video interludes which features members of the group talking about their memories of playing and/or watching their favorite animated shows & games!

Thank you to everyone who attended and all who’ve supported this ensemble along the way! We cannot wait to share everything we’ve got planned for our 2015-16 season!
